Terms of service.

These are the terms under which you may use Lectis. By creating an account, installing the browser extension, or using the apps, you agree to them.

1. Who we are

Lectis is operated by Spindlecode, LLC ("Spindlecode," "we," "us"). Contact: contact@lectis.ai.

2. What Lectis is

Lectis is a read-it-later service: you save articles via our apps or browser extension; we keep a clean reading copy that you can come back to later. The service includes the iOS app, the web app at app.lectis.ai, and the browser extensions on Chrome, Firefox, and Safari.

3. Accounts

You need a Lectis account to sync saved articles across devices. Accounts are tied to a Google identity via Google OAuth. You must be at least 13 years old (16 in the EU) to create an account. You are responsible for the Google account used to sign in.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use Lectis to save or distribute material you don't have a right to copy. We are not a circumvention tool for paywalls you haven't subscribed to.
  • Attempt to access another user's data, account, or saved articles.
  • Probe, scan, or reverse-engineer the service in a way that disrupts other users.
  • Use Lectis to scrape sites at scale on someone else's behalf.
  • Resell access to your account.

5. Content you save

You own the article URLs and content you choose to save to your library. By saving an article to Lectis, you grant Spindlecode a limited license to store, render, and serve that saved copy back to you across your devices. We do not republish, share, or otherwise make your saved content available to anyone else.

Articles are saved as your personal copy. Copyright in the underlying material remains with its author or publisher; saving an article to Lectis is legally analogous to printing it for personal reference or using Firefox's Reader View. We will respond to valid takedown requests; see the DMCA section below.

6. Free service, no warranty

Lectis is currently provided free of charge. The service is provided "as is" — we don't warrant that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any specific article will extract cleanly. We may change, suspend, or discontinue the service or any feature at any time, though we'll give reasonable notice for any discontinuation that materially affects users.

7. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Spindlecode is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of Lectis, including loss of saved content, profits, or data. Our total aggregate liability under these terms will not exceed one hundred US dollars ($100).

8. Termination

You can stop using Lectis at any time by uninstalling the apps or deleting your account (email us). We can suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms; we'll do our best to give you notice and a chance to export your data first, except where doing so would harm other users or violate the law.

9. DMCA / copyright takedowns

If you believe content saved to Lectis infringes your copyright, send a written notice to contact@lectis.ai with: (a) your contact info, (b) the URL of the original work, (c) the URL or identifier within Lectis you want removed, (d) a statement under penalty of perjury that you are the rights holder or authorized agent. We act on valid notices within 7 days.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Delaware, and you consent to that jurisdiction.

11. Changes

If we make material changes to these terms, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and notify signed-in users from within the app the next time they open it. Continued use of Lectis after a material change means you accept the new terms.

12. Privacy

Our handling of your data is described in the privacy policy, which is incorporated by reference into these terms.
